Eurotrip Day 14 brought us absolutely perfect weather for sightseeing!  Paris has an extensive train system, but we opted to walk everywhere so we could see as much as possible.  That meant another 7 miles added to our overall trip!  We saw all of the major outdoor Paris attractions throughout the day, took a wine tasting class, and ended the evening with a very interesting dinner.  Read on to explore Paris with us…

Eurotrip Day 13: London to Paris

On Eurotrip Day 13 we definitely took it easy.  We slept in, then walked through Picadilly Circus to the National Portrait Gallery and The National [Art] Gallery.  We made our way to the train station in the afternoon, where we took the Eurostar high-speed train from London to Paris.  Paris was a bit of a culture shock compared to Ireland and the United Kingdom… mostly because this was the only country during this trip where English was not the primary language.  Upon arriving at our hotel, we immediately downloaded Google Translate!

Eurotrip Day 11: Jolly Ole London Town

Eurotrip Day 11 was another 10+ mile day of walking and sight-seeing around London.  We opted not to do full tours at most of the sites, because let’s face it… that can get super pricey and time consuming.  We did tour Westminster Abbey, which was excellent and our favorite part of the day.  Neither of us knew that there are people buried within the abbey… some very famous people!  The ones we found most interesting were Charles Darwin, Isaac Newton, and Charles Dickens.  We also attended a choral service at St. Paul’s Cathedral.  To end the day, we drank real ales and ate meat pies at a local pub on Trafalgar Square.

On Eurotrip Day 9, I would estimate we walked no less than 10 miles.  We took a free walking history tour of the city, and then we hiked up to Arthur’s Seat (a giant hill overlooking the city of Edinburgh).  The hike was not easy, but the views were totally worth the effort!  We walked back to our hotel and spent the rest of the evening eating, sipping wine, and propping up our very tired feet!

Eurotrip Day 8 was a dream come true for me.  I spent the morning golfing a full 18 holes at the St. Andrews Old Course – the oldest golf course in the world!  Brooke opted to stay in the clubhouse, because it was literally freezing when I teed off, but she got to watch me on the first hole.  Also, golf carts are not allowed at St. Andrews, so I was required to walk the full 18 holes.  I played one of my best rounds of golf ever, ending with a score of 83.  After golfing, we explored the town of St. Andrews.  We  then drove down to Edinburgh where we ended the evening with a fascinating underground ghost tour!

Eurotrip Day 7 was a very relaxed Easter Sunday.  We started our day with a church service at the Inverness Methodist Church.  The congregation was small, and they were SO excited to have visitors from the USA.  The rest of the day was spent on a leisurely afternoon drive through the middle of the Highlands.  We stopped at Tomatin and Dalwhinnie distilleries.  Our drive ended in Dundee, where we stayed at an old manor house that had been converted to a Hilton property.  Read on to learn more about our exploration of the Scottish Highlands.

On Day 6, we spent almost the entire day traveling from Belfast to Dublin to Glasgow to Inverness!  This may sound like kind of a bummer, but the drive through Scotland was actually quite breathtaking.  We made a couple stops along the way to sample some scotch and enjoy the natural beauty of the highlands. Our day ended in Inverness with some fantastic AirBNB hosts, so be sure to check out the AirBNB spotlight.
